School Introduction

We are a large, three-form primary school where visitors regularly comment that, despite our size, we have managed to retain a small school family-friendly feel. We pride ourselves on knowing every child by name and as an individual.

Our grounds are extensive and our children are incredibly fortunate to have the space that they do. We have a large playground, field, Forest School area, a dedicated science lab (PhizLab) and a computing suite that has individual machines for a whole class of children. We also have two large indoor hall spaces so that all children can continue with physical activities throughout the year regardless of the weather. We pride ourselves on making sure that our school facilities, buildings and grounds are always very well-maintained and constantly updated so that our children have the very best physical environment, which we believe impacts greatly on the children’s well-being and progress.

We have an extremely well-embedded ‘Thrive’ social and emotional programme, which has a fantastic track record of enabling children to successfully overcome any social and emotional difficulties that they may have on entry or during their time at our school, enabling them to achieve well, both personally and academically.

We are very fortunate to share a site and have strong links with our neighbouring secondary school: Woodrush High School and we are the main feeder school for them. Because of this, our Year 6 pupils are able to experience a very thorough and established transition process as they prepare to embark on the next stage of their education.

Our Mission Statement

Underpinning our vision statement is our mission statement which is as follows:

Cherishing and Valuing:

This is a welcoming, friendly and happy school where everyone feels secure, cared for and appreciated, where they enjoy working and learning.  

Observing Achievement:

Success is always promoted and progress and achievement recognised and celebrated for both staff and children.


We build a partnership with parents and home, other schools and agencies, knitting the school into the fabric of our community. Further, there is a commitment to expanding our children’s outlook and horizons locally, nationally and globally.

Personalised Learning For All:

Teachers and Teaching Assistants provide a tailored approach to support all the groups of learners within our school community whilst ensuring a mixed ability, inclusive approach. We give extra support to the learners that need it most and learning is focused on individual pupils’ needs and abilities. We place great focus on regular and on-going assessment which enables knowledge about individuals to inform their next steps in learning.

Interest and Engage:

All children benefit from a broad, balanced and well-sequenced curriculum that has lots of opportunities for thinking hard, first-hand experiences, practical work and investigation. The curriculum is enlivened and enriched by visits, outside visitors, and extensive use of the outdoor environment and technology. The creative aspects including art, poetry, story, dance, music and performance are also embedded and inter-woven into our curriculum. We provide many activities outside of school hours to extend and further develop our children’s learning and talents.

Conduct and Behaviour: 

We have high expectations and standards for all of our children, which are taught through our ‘Coppice Way’ behaviour curriculum and focuses on ensuring that our children are taught to be ‘Respectful, Responsible and Ready’ individuals. All children are treated fairly and listened to. Everyone has an opportunity to take responsibility for their behaviour and learning, build their self-esteem and develop their self-confidence by being positively encouraged to take an active role in school life. Through our curriculum, we promote behaviours that lead to a healthy and sustainable lifestyle.

The Grove Partnership

We value the working relationships we have with other schools and in the current national climate, school to school support is vital to our continued development. The Coppice Primary School is proud to be part of The Grove* partnership of schools which includes: Lickey Hills Primary School, Holywell Primary & Nursery School and Beaconside Primary & Nursery School. 

Each school within our local group has something distinctive to share and we can all learn from each other’s good practice. We see ourselves as partners, not rivals, collaborating for further school improvement whilst all retaining our uniqueness and individuality. This partnership has evolved from our work with the Bromsgrove schools network, which includes all first, middle and primary schools in the Bromsgrove district.

Such school to school partnerships are invaluable and as such we, Bromsgrove Headteachers, are keen to continue working closely with each other.

We use the opportunities that this collaborative approach provides to develop school leadership, teaching and learning, administration and governance. The children gain from the shared expertise of staff across the network and wider opportunities within the network for collaborative experiences.

We work in a supportive and challenging capacity so as to have an impact upon school improvement and to ensure that all schools in the network are provided with appropriate systems and support that enable them to maintain strong provision and outcomes.


*Grove: a small collection of trees that grow as a community; they are interconnected by their roots and share resources to support each other.
