The Coppice curriculum for Early Years, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 has been thoughtfully designed to best meet the individual needs of all of our children. Through the way we teach the curriculum we aim to empower our children to become more knowledgeable, ambitious, curious, resilient and empathetic. These are our primary curriculum drivers and, through them, we aim to ensure that our vision for our children of being ‘Happy, Confident and Successful learners who are fully prepared for the next phase of their education’ is realised.
We are dedicated to delivering an ambitious and inclusive curriculum that reflects our commitment to every pupil’s success whilst ensuring a safe, stimulating and respectful learning environment where every child can thrive. By the time our children leave us in Year 6, it is extremely important to us that our curriculum, and wider curriculum opportunities, have ensured that ‘none of our children’s talents have been left undiscovered’.
The primary drivers and aims on which our curriculum design is based are:
Coppice children will place a high value on knowing and remembering more, developing a breadth and depth of powerful knowledge across distinct subject disciplines. They will combine and apply this knowledge to deepen understanding.
Coppice children will develop a thirst for knowledge and will be brave enough to question the world in which they live. They will engage with a diverse range of role models and form their own responses to culturally significant people and their work
Coppice children will be encouraged to be the best that they can be. They will set aspirational goals and have high expectations of themselves and their learning. They will take pride in their work and be confident enough to share it with a wider audience.
Coppice children will work hard and embrace the challenge that comes with achieving their goals. They will develop the confidence to take risks and approach challenges positively. They will welcome feedback and see mistakes as learning opportunities. They will not give up and will accept that practice is a key to success.
Coppice children will learn social and emotional skills and vocabulary. They will be supportive of one other and develop a sense of community. They will appreciate diversity and gain insights into the experiences and perspectives of others. They will develop a social conscience through discussion of world issues and ethical dilemmas.
