On behalf of the children, staff and Trustees, I would like to welcome you to The Coppice Primary and Nursery School.
Without a doubt, The Coppice is a very special, successful and inclusive school which places working in partnership with Parents and Carers at its heart. We are a large, three-form primary school where visitors regularly comment that, despite our size, we have managed to retain a small school family-friendly feel. We pride ourselves on knowing every child by name, and as an individual, and hold many events which build a sense of community. We have a fantastic and incredibly passionate staff who are all dedicated to the children in their care and, as a result, we have a great reputation within the community we serve. Our aim, whilst your child is with us, is therefore to prove why we have this great reputation.
Although it is my priority that the children at The Coppice receive an education that will enable them to achieve their academic potential and progress confidently into the next phase of their education, it is also part of my vision that all of our children are filled with positive experiences and are nurtured both socially and emotionally from the moment they enter our school. We have an extremely well-embedded ‘Thrive’ programme, which has a fantastic track record of enabling children to successfully overcome any difficulties that they may have, enabling them to achieve well in every respect. Through our approach, we work hard to ensure that all our children develop a confidence and resilience to embrace and deal effectively with whatever challenges may come their way in the future.
Underpinning the above is our desire that all children at The Coppice develop the values that will enable them to be excellent citizens. Through our behaviour curriculum: The Coppice Way, we actively teach our children how to be ready to learn and how to be responsible and respectful individuals. Because of this, our local secondary school and members of the public, who encounter our children, regularly comment on how polite and well-behaved our pupils are. This view is a product of design, not chance, and we work extremely hard to ensure that this is the case.
All the team here at The Coppice recognise our children as unique individuals with very specific talents and needs. They therefore work tirelessly to provide a varied and engaging curriculum and positive school experiences to ensure that we are a school where ‘no child’s talent is left undiscovered’. You’ll find our classrooms are busy with activity and are full of creativity and learning, making The Coppice a very special place indeed for all our pupils.
Finally, we are a school that doesn’t rest on its laurels, and we are constantly looking to develop and improve further. Our children deserve the very best in terms of both physical environment and academic learning and, therefore, we will never stop striving to ensure that this is exactly what they get during their time with us. We pride ourselves on ensuring that our school facilities, buildings and grounds are always very well-maintained and constantly updated which we believe impacts greatly on the children’s well-being and progress. It is crucial that our children know how much we care about them which, in-turn, instils a great pride in their school.
Our grounds are extensive, and our children are incredibly fortunate to have the space that they do. We have a large playground, field, Forest School area, Multi-Use-Games Area (MUGA), a dedicated Science Lab (PhizLab) and a computing suite. We also have two large indoor hall spaces so that all our children can continue with physical activities throughout the year regardless of the weather.
We are also very fortunate to share a site, and have strong links, with our neighbouring secondary school: Woodrush High School and we are the main feeder school for them. Because of this, our Year 6 pupils can experience a very thorough and established transition process as they prepare to embark on the next stage of their education.
If you would like to know more about our school, visits are always welcome and encouraged. The staff and pupils very much enjoy talking about and sharing our achievements and successes and will be extremely proud to talk to you about our school.
