District Indoor Athletics Tournament January 2020

On Friday 24th January the year 5 and 6 Girls Athletics team travelled to Arrow Vale for the District Indoor Athletics Tournament.
Nine schools had entered teams with Coppice being up against all of the Redditch Middle Schools.
Competition was fierce and the standard improves year on year. The Coppice team worked hard and managed to win a number of events.
The sprints were run in three heats and timings taken of each race to allocate positions and points.
In the field events three athletes per team took it in turns to compete.
The two lap relay was won by Maddie and Olivia in a time of 23.1 seconds
The 4x1 relay (Mr Edwards' favourite event) was won by Olivia, Maddie, Keeva and Penny in a time of 46.7 seconds. Our baton changing (which we had practised) was absolutely fantastic and was key to us winning; small margins in the sprint races make such a difference!
Coppice came first in field events as well, with Florence, Naomi and Penny winning the triple jump with a combined score of 14.84 metres. We all took the javelin crown with Molly, Nicole and Keeva throwing a combined distance of 36 metres.
A fantastic afternoon for all involved which led to Coppice taking second place overall with 174 points. The eventual winners being Birchensale with 186 points.
Both Miss Gatfield and I were tremendously proud of our team. They showed belief and tenacity. Some were very nervous in what was a loud sports hall bustling with activity. However our performances in every event did the school proud.
Well done to all of you- Olivia, Penny, Keeva, Lara, Aimee, Maddie, Nicole, Freya, Florence, Naomi, Molly and Leila.
